Gentari Revs Up Green Mobility Business in MoU with PROTON’s EV-focused Subsidiary

Clean energy solutions provider Gentari Sdn Bhd (Gentari), a subsidiary of PETRONAS, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Proton New Energy Technology Sdn Bhd (PRO-NET), a subsidiary of PROTON, to leverage the capabilities of both parties and drive growth in Malaysia’s electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure in line with national decarbonisation goals.

Gentari and PRO-NET exchanged the MoU documents today on the side lines of the International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition & Conference Malaysia (IGEM) 2022, with Gentari being represented by Shah Yang Razalli, Head of Clean Energy Solutions Transition at PETRONAS and PRO-NET being represented by its Chief Executive Officer, Zhang Qiang. Witnessing the event were Dato' Seri Ir Dr Zaini Ujang, Secretary General of the Ministry of Environment and Water, along with Datuk Tengku Muhammad Taufik, President and Group Chief Executive Officer of PETRONAS, and Roslan Abdullah, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of PROTON.

Following its official launch last month, Gentari is revving up the pace in growing its business via partnerships and joint collaborations. “Gentari aims to solve the world’s most pressing sustainable energy needs by changing the way we live today to secure the future. The collaboration with PRO-NET will go a long way in supporting the switch to sustainable transportation in Malaysia by progressing towards making EV adoption more affordable and accessible.” Shah Yang Razalli commented.

The MoU will see Gentari powering PROTON's far-reaching network of dealers nationwide with comprehensive charging solutions to benefit PROTON users in Malaysia. To date, Gentari has already installed more than 225 charging points in Malaysia and India, boosting the range confidence needed in growing EV adoption.

Zhang Qiang also commented that “Today’s exchange of documents with Gentari allows us to collaborate with the clean energy solutions provider and contribute to the build-up of Malaysia’s charging infrastructure.”

This collaboration between Gentari and PRO-NET supports the Dasar Tenaga Negara (DTN) aspiration for Malaysia to be a low carbon nation by 2040 by increasing the percentage share of EVs from less than 1% in 2018 to 38% by 2040.
